FY27 Proposed Budget Back Out for a Revote
|
|
|
|
The Milton Town School District Board of Trustees has approved a proposed budget of $40,812,465 for the upcoming fiscal year and has scheduled a revote on Tuesday, May 19.
What’s on the Ballot?
Voters will be asked to consider the following article:
Article 1: Shall the voters of Milton Town School District approve the Milton Town School District Board of Trustees to expend the budget of forty million, eight hundred and twelve thousand, four hundred and sixty-five dollars ($40,812,465), which is the amount the school board has determined to be necessary for the ensuing fiscal year? The Milton Town School District estimates that this proposed budget, if approved, will result in per pupil education spending of $14,103.15, which is 2.48% higher than per pupil education spending for the current year.
What This Means for Our School and Community
This proposed budget reflects the Board’s continued commitment to supporting students, maintaining strong educational programs, and responsibly planning for the district’s future. It also reduces the initial tax impact by 42% - because every dollar counts!
Make Your Voice Heard!
The budget revote will take place on May 19 from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM at the Town Offices. This is an important opportunity for residents to participate in shaping the future of Milton’s schools.
We encourage all community members to stay informed, ask questions, and take part in the voting process. Together, we can continue working toward a strong and supportive educational environment for all students.

MES Welcomes Future Educators from UVM! |
This year, Milton Elementary School (MES) proudly partnered with the University of Vermont (UVM) to host six senior students pursuing degrees in elementary education. As part of their final year, these aspiring educators complete an intensive student teaching experience, which includes a two-week period of full-time, solo instruction.
Throughout their time at MES, these student teachers have demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and a genuine passion for working with students. Their contributions have been meaningful to both our classrooms and school community, and we are grateful for the energy and fresh perspectives they have brought.
We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our MES mentor teachers, whose guidance, support, and willingness to open their classrooms have made this experience possible. Their commitment to developing future educators reflects the strong sense of collaboration and professionalism within our school.
As they prepare to conclude their placements in the coming weeks, we extend our sincere appreciation to these student teachers for their hard work and commitment. We wish them great success as they begin their careers in education!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye! The Great Colonial Break-Up at MMS |
Hear Ye, Hear Ye! The Great Colonial Break-Up
History took a theatrical turn before vacation as our 5/6 Social Studies classrooms were transformed into the royal courts of the 18th century. To bring the tensions of the Revolutionary War to life, our teachers donned their finest royal attire—crowns and all—to portray a very "loyal" (and perhaps a bit stubborn) King George III.
The assignment? The 13 Colonies decided it was time to move on. Students put pen to paper to craft "Break-Up Letters" to Great Britain, channeling the grievances of the Declaration of Independence into modern, creative, and often hilarious messages of separation.
From citing "irreconcilable differences" over taxes to declaring their need for "more space," our students demonstrated a deep understanding of the sparks that ignited the American Revolution. It was a day filled with historical insight, royal flair, and a definitive end to the Crown's rule in our hallways!
Highlights included:
The Royal Entrance: Teachers stayed in character as King George, demanding loyalty from their "subjects."
The Grievances: Students translated 18th-century complaints into persuasive, passionate letters.
The Result: A hands-on lesson in sovereignty and the birth of a new nation.

MHS Welcomes The Class of 2030 at 8th Grade Step-Up Night! |
Milton High School welcomed rising 9th-grade students and their families for our annual 8th Grade Step-Up Night on Tuesday, April 14th. This important event marks the beginning of our students’ transition to high school and provides an opportunity to build connections, ease anxieties, and generate excitement for our newest students.
The evening began with a warm welcome in the MHS Auditorium, where families gathered to hear from Principal Scott Sivo and view the latest MHS Hype Video.
The program focused on a “day in the life” look at a Milton High School 9th grade student, highlighting a typical schedule along with the wide range of clubs, activities, and athletic opportunities available to students.
Students met their TA teachers for the first time, beginning to build the relationships that will support them throughout their high school experience. While families remained in the auditorium for a presentation and Q&A session with administrators and school counselors, students participated in small group activities in their TA classrooms.
Step-Up Night concluded with guided tours of the building, led by TA teachers. Families had the opportunity to meet additional staff members, and get a chance to see many of the learning spaces MHS has to offer.
Step-Up Night is an important tradition at Milton High School, reflecting our commitment to ensure a gradual and thoughtful transition to high school for our newest students. We look forward to the fall and officially welcoming the Class of 2030 to Milton High School!
